Did you know, as many as 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness or mental health concern? Also, at any given time, 4-5% of the population is depressed – that is roughly 1.5 million people!
That is why the Defeat Depression event is so important! It is a national mental health awareness, anti-stigma and fundraising campaign that provides hope for people affected by depression and other mood disorders. Across Canada, volunteers are organizing walks, runs and other physical and social activities to get people talking about and moving for mental health. Physical activities like walking and running, along with community engagement and social interaction, have a demonstrated positive effect on mental wellbeing.
